THE BRAND
Founded in Singapore in 2017, HELENE QUAN is an independent house of objects and observation. We look at nature, relationships and the objects around us, learning from what we find and giving it form.Design, like a poem, holds what is seen and felt in a simple form. Keep Shining On has been with the house from the beginning, reflecting a belief in individuality, possibility and the freedom to create.
Impact
We continue to explore materials, design and production with a focus on quality and responsible growth, while understanding and reducing the impact of how our jewellery is designed, made and delivered. Read more about our approach to impact.
FOUNDER
Helene’s path to design was not a direct one.She studied literature and languages at university, and worked in fashion publishing, education and film before entering international finance. After moving to Singapore, where she has lived for more than two decades, Helene built a career in global banking and became a Vice President responsible for market strategy across Asia. She later joined the landscape architecture practice founded by her husband, which they have built and continue to manage together. The work brought her back to drawing, nature and the process of making.Long before this, there was another beginning. Born and raised in China, Helene grew up in a family shaped by Chinese, Korean and European cultural traditions. She remembers watching her grandmother make lace, embroidery, silk flowers and pieces for bridal dress by hand. The patience and pleasure she found in watching things being made planted an early shining seed.Jewellery came much later, and without a plan.During a break from her career, Helene took a one-week university course in high jewellery design. Her first creation, Song of the Sea, returned to the lace structures she remembered from childhood. It went on to win first prize in an international jewellery competition. The seed had returned.Helene continued making pieces quietly, first for herself, then for family, friends and people around her.
In 2017, she founded the house in Singapore. The house has remained close to this beginning. Its pieces are made for and worn by people across Helene’s own world — bankers, artists, designers, architects and educators — while the work has also found its way into Vogue, ELLE, L’Officiel and Tatler, received further design recognition, and appeared on international red carpets. Janet Yang, then President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, chose Helene’s pieces for the Academy Awards and continued to wear them for other international appearances.Helene continues to develop the house slowly and independently, alongside the other parts of her life. She looks, studies and makes when there is something worth making. Some observations become objects. Others are simply kept.
